Michele Grace Hottel, Architect - PIRCH

Have You Ever Met a Woman Architect Before? We’re lucky to know Michele Grace Hottel, owner of her namesake architecture and design firm and host of the “I’ve Never Met a Woman Architect Before” podcast. Michele has been a PIRCH client for several years, and we’re excited to showcase one of her recently completed projects in the San Diego area.

Michele started her practice about 30 years ago, and typically works on custom residential remodels and additions, as well as new build homes. “I’m inspired by so many things as an architect,” says Michele. “I look at the site, the climate, and the context of the project. Also, working with the client and trying to involve their personalities, really making the project unique and their own.”

“Looking at Julia’s (Morgan) legacy, her lfe seems to parallel that of women architects today, who also put a great deal of time and energy into running their own practice. However, when I asked many women in residential practice today what the advantage of having their own residential practice was, they said that it gave them more control over their own career and more flexibility in their schedule, leading to more satisfaction in their work.”

How the pandemic has us growing closer to the outdoors - The Washington Post

Across the country, Michele Grace Hottel, a San Diego architect, watched people create their own pop-up outdoor spaces. “I saw people set up outdoor rooms in the front, side and backyards and even their driveways. They put down dining tables and chairs and added fire pits. They reimagined places for small gatherings with family, friends and neighbors,” she said.

Space Age Design Relaunches - Mansion Global

“Popular culture always influences architecture,” says Michele Grace Hottel, founder of Michele Grace Hottel Architects in La Mesa, California. “The renewed interest in space and technology and futurism is something people address in the space they live in, in the form of design. Things like open spaces, connection to the natural site, and big expanses of glass are elements of Space Age architecture that resonate with people today, too.”

“Breaking Barriers” is an an exhibit travelling around the Libraries and Public Spaces of San Diego and Environs with the work of Women in the Architecture and Environmental Design Professions.
